The Cisco 2821 Integrated Services Routers provide customers a highly flexible and scalable infrastructure which meets the present day and future business requirements, increases the end-user productivity and reduces the cost involved in maintaining a high-speed communication network. The 2800 series routers have shown a fivefold improvement in performance and a tenfold improvement in voice and security performance over previous generations while still supporting almost 90 existing Cisco modules available today. With an enhanced network module slot, dual integrated Ethernet ports (10/100/1000), four high speed WAN interface card slots and optional Layer 2 level support for switching through Power over Ethernet (PoE), the 2821 ISRs stand out from its peers. The improved security features include intrusion prevention, Cisco IOS firewall support, on-board hardware encryption and support of up to 1500 VPN tunnels (using AIM-EPII-PLUS module). They also feature a dedicated Extension voice module slot and support analog and digital voice calls, voice mails (optional), Cisco Call Manager Express or Survivable Remote Site Telephony for up to 48 IP phones for local call processing. The choice depends on whether the call processing is for stand- alone businesses or small enterprise branch offices. They thus meet the growing requirements of all kinds of small and medium sized businesses.
